Hosted by the Young Lawyers Division
In this timely lunchtime CLE program, featured speaker Sara Solow will analyze the broad base issues presented by the Sanctuary City Executive Order. Hear a brief history of 8 USC 1373, the federal statute that prohibits localities from having policies that block the sharing of immigration status information with ICE.
The CLE will examine the three different ways cities may be labeled "sanctuaries:"
- 1) when they have policies against complying with ICE detainer
- 2) when they have policies against providing notification to ICE about the release of undocumented persons
- 3) when they have other "confidentiality" policies
Solow will explore how the law may apply to current situations and the legal challenges that have been raised to the January Executive Order.
Join your colleagues and Young Lawyers Division members to hear what the real threats to cities may be and what legal options there are for maintaining status as a sanctuary city.
