2018 Bar Association Election: Petitions Due Oct. 15

The Philadelphia Bar Association has formed its Elections Committee which is chaired by Past Chancellor Deborah R. Gross and consists of Benjamin R. Barnett, Meghan E. Claiborne, Rochelle M. Fedullo, Susan M. Lin, Hon. Tina Maria Rago, Mary F. Platt, Hon. Tina Maria Rago, Anita Santos-Singh, Hon. A. Michael Snyder (Ret.), Michael T. van der Veen and Dominique B.E. Ward. As Secretary, Marc J. Zucker serves as a non-voting member.

Offices for which candidates are being solicited are Vice Chancellor, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, and five seats on the Board of Governors. Each Board seat carries a three-year term.

Association members may become candidates for any of these offices by filing with the Secretary, on or before October 15 for the December 5, 2018 Annual Meeting, nominations in writing which, for candidates of the Board, must be signed by at least 25 Members who are entitled to vote; for candidates for Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer, shall be signed by at least 35 Members who are entitled to vote; and for candidates for Vice Chancellor, shall be signed by at least 100 Members who are entitled to vote.

The Philadelphia Lawyer Magazine Accepting Submissions for Race and Law Issue

The Editorial Board of The Philadelphia Lawyer magazine is soliciting submissions for a forthcoming issue on race and the law. The Board is looking for articles that tell stories from the perspectives of people of all colors who have encountered the law in any way. This issue is slated for spring 2019.

We are looking for shorter articles of 750 words and longer feature-length articles of 1,200-1,500 words. Authors may ask to remain anonymous to protect their privacy.

All submissions must be previously unpublished and approved by the Board for publication. No article is guaranteed to be published. For more information and to submit an article for consideration please email tplmag@philabar.org.

Successful candidate must be a licensed attorney and on active status in Pennsylvania. Successful candidate must be able to speak Spanish as the position involves some conversational Spanish. DLSC Pro Bono Road Shows Sept. 27-Oct. 5

The Philadelphia Bar Association's DLSC Pro Bono Subcommittee is hosting 1-hour "pro bono road shows" at participating law firm and corporate offices throughout Philadelphia from Sept. 17 through Oct. 5 to highlight pro bono opportunities and recruit new volunteers. The road shows will feature pro bono agencies like Education Law Center, Homeless Advocacy Project, Legal Clinic for the Disabled, Mazzoni Center, Military Assistance Project, Pennsylvania Innocence Project, Philadelphia VIP, Public Interest Law Center, SeniorLAW Center, Support Center for Child Advocates and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts & PA Patent. The Philadelphia Bar Association's Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) has expanded its Product Liability panels in order to better meet the needs of clients requiring assistance with injuries resulting from the use of Paxil, Reglan, Risperdal, Xarelto, Yaz, pelvic mesh or talc.

If you have significant experience litigating any of these matters, we invite you to join LRIS. Attorneys wishing to receive referrals for claims involving Paxil, Reglan, Risperdal, Xarelto, Yaz, pelvic mesh or talc must represent, or have represented, at least 12 plaintiffs in civil actions involving the same product brought in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and must have completed a minimum of five hours of CLE in trial tactics, products liability or class actions within the past three years.

This one-stop-shop allows the city's legal-aid nonprofit organizations to know who is interested in assisting by giving volunteers the opportunity to add their name to a list for these groups to access if they need additional support for a particular cause.
