Chancellor's Reception Jan. 4 at Bellevue

All members of the Philadelphia legal community are invited to a complimentary reception in honor of John E. Savoth, 85th Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, on Wednesday, Jan. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt at The Bellevue, Broad and Walnut streets. No RSVP is necessary.

This is the event in which even the city's busiest legal luminaries patiently wait in line to wish the new Chancellor and each other good luck in the year ahead.

Business Law Section to Honor Beaser Feb. 6

The Business Law Section's Annual Reception will be held Monday, Feb. 6 at the Westin Philadelphia Hotel where former Association Chancellor Lawrence J. Beaser will be presented with the Section's Dennis H. Replansky Memorial Award.

The Section established the award in recognition of Replansky's career as a lawyer and his contributions to legal, civic, religious and other charitable causes. Replansky was a 51-year-old senior partner at Blank Rome Comisky & McCauley LLP when he died in March 1994. He was a former chair of the Business Law Section.

The section will also recognize Katayun I. Jaffari as Committee Chair of the Year and the Human Resources & Employee Relations Committee as Committee of the Year at the event, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Westin, 99 S. 17th St.

Tickets are $50 for members of the Business Law Section and $60 for non-members. Tickets are $70 for those who are not members of the Philadelphia Bar Association. Click here to purchase tickets.

Lifetime Achievement Award Nominations Sought

The Justinian Society and the Comisky Family are seeking nominations for the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award in memory of Marvin Comisky and Judge G. Fred DiBona, to be awarded at the Philadelphia Bar Association's Quarterly Meeting and Luncheon scheduled for March 2012.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is not limited to an area of practice or an advocate for a particular cause. Rather, the purpose of the award is to recognize an outstanding member of the bench or bar who, at a minimum, satisfies the following qualifications: acts as a superb mentor and advisor to clients, the Bar, the judicial system and/or the community; makes a difference in the lives of others irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender or sexual orientation; demonstrates a willingness to do what is right although sometimes unpopular; demonstrates legal acumen or scholarship; and exhibits great humility.

A charitable contribution will be made on behalf of the recipient to an organization of the recipient's choice.

Nominations should include the nominee's name, address and a statement of the nominee's qualifications. All nominations should be mailed to Thomas H. LGBT Rights, Civil Rights, Immigration Party Dec. 19

LGBT Rights, Civil Rights and Immigration Law Committees will hold a holiday party on Monday, Dec. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the 11th floor Conference Center of Bar Association headquarters, 1101 Market St. The event will feature the the presentation of the Cheryl Ingram Advocate for Justice Award to Katie R. Eyer. This reception is complimentary for all members and includes beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres. Registration is required. Click here to register.

YLD Seeks Service Award Nominees

The Young Lawyers Division is accepting nominations for the F. Sean Peretta Service Award and the Craig M. Perry Service Award, both presented at the upcoming YLD Annual Meeting in early 2012.
Deadline for nominations is Wednesday, Dec. 21.

The F. Sean Peretta Service Award is presented annually to an individual who has devoted substantial time to an innovative or non-traditional program that serves the community. Peretta was a private practitioner who died suddenly at age 31 who was a very involved community activist and a mentor to kids in his home neighborhood. He was viewed as a role model for African-American youth.

The Craig M. Perry Service Award is presented annually to a young lawyer - 37 years old or younger or within the first three years of practice - who has devoted substantial time and energy to community-oriented activities, including, but not limited to, pro bono and charity work. Perry was a member of the YLD Executive Committee who suffered an untimely death. He was very involved in community service and active in student-related and other YLD programs.

Nominations should include the individual's name, address and a brief statement describing his or her qualifications. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, Dec. 21. SeniorLAW Center Seeks Award Nominees

SeniorLAW Center, who has been protecting the rights of Pennsylvania's seniors for more than 30 years, is now accepting nominations for three awards to be presented at its annual fundraiser: SeniorPROM (a prom for all ages) to be held on May 4, 2012.

The awards are for Volunteer of the Year, Senior Advocate/Champion of the Year and Partner of the Year. Deadline for nominations is Thursday, Dec. 15. For further details and the nomination form, visit seniorlawcenter.org/events.

ACLU Bill of Rights Dinner Dec. 15

The ACLU of Pennsylvania will present the annual "Bill of Rights Dinner" on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Historical Society, 1300 Locust St.

At this event, Professor Seth Kreimer will be presented with the Spencer L. Coxe Civil Libertarian Award, and Sharon Dietrich, managing attorney for employment and public benefits at Community Legal Services, Inc. will be honored with the new ACLU Pioneer Award.

This event is open to everyone - you do not need to be a current ACLU member! A VIP reception will be held at 6 p.m., followed by dinner from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $95 each. The 2011 Benjamin F. Levy Community Service Award will be presented to past Chancellor Edward F. Chacker. A buffet supper will be served with all dietary laws observed. Donations of gift cards will be accepted for delivery to Jewish Family & Children's Service of Greater Philadelphia to allow those in need to purchase holiday gifts for their children.

Fully-Paid Bar Membership for Villanova Law Students

Through an agreement negotiated by Dean John Y. Gotanda, the Philadelphia Bar Association is pleased to offer all current students of Villanova University School of Law the opportunity to register for fully-paid membership in the Philadelphia Bar Association.
