Statement of Chancellor John E. Savoth on the Passing of Hon. Frank J. Montemuro Jr.
Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor John E. Savoth issued the following statement on the passing of former Philadelphia Common Pleas Court and Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge and Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Frank J. Montemuro Jr.:
“Justice Montemuro was a hard-working jurist who was well-respected by lawyers for his integrity, compassion, courtesy and devotion to the law,” Savoth said.
“He was an ardent supporter of greater uniformity in Pennsylvania’s court system to improve the quality of justice in the state. He was also a life-long leader in the Italian-American community, who exemplified the highest ideals of personal character and sound judgment. The Philadelphia Bar Association proudly presented its Wachovia Fidelity Award to Justice Montemuro in 2004 for his significant accomplishments in improving the administration of justice. On behalf of the entire legal community, we extend our condolences to Justice Montemuro’s family at this difficult time.”
Viewings will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, at the Galzerano Funeral Home, 9304 Old Bustleton Ave., Philadelphia, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, April 2, at St. Andrew Church, 81 Swamp Rd., Newtown, before an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass there. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
