Sections, YLD Plan Annual Holiday EventsPlanning for holiday gatherings is underway for the sections and Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
Public Interest Law Day, Reception Nov. 28The Annual Public Interest Law Day CLE will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28. The program, "Keeping Up in Turbulent Times: Public Interest Practice in 2012," will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The CLE Conference Center on the 10th floor of the Wanamaker Building, Market and Juniper Streets. The Public Interest Section's Annual Awards Ceremony and Reception follows the CLE programs at 5:30 p.m. at Loews Philadelphia Hotel, 1200 Market St. The Awards Ceremony will include the presentation of the Andrew Hamilton Award for distinguished service in public interest law to Catherine C. Carr, executive director of Community Legal Services, as well as the selection of the Higginbotham Fellowship and presentation of the 2012 Law Student Awards. Family Law Section Annual Dinner Dec. 3The Family Law Section will hold its Annual Dinner and Award Presentation on Monday, Dec. 3 at Walnut Street Supper Club, 1227 Walnut St. beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Section will present the Herbert R. Weiman, Jr. Award to David I. Grunfeld. Tickets are $75 for Section members and employees of the First Judicial District. Tickets are $85 for non-members. Probate and Trust Section Annual Reception Dec. 4The Probate and Trust Law Section will hold its Annual Meeting and Reception on Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom at the Radisson-Plaza Warwick Hotel, 1701 Locust St. Admission is complimentary for members of the Probate and Trust Law Section and includes an open bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres. Criminal Justice Section Annual Reception Dec. 4The Criminal Justice Section will present its Justice Thurgood Marshall Award to Alan Yatvin at its Annual Reception on Tuesday, Dec. 4. The reception begins at 6 p.m. at Loews Philadelphia Hotel, 1200 Market St., 33rd floor. and features music from the Ed Dennis Quartet. Tickets are $55 for Section members, $45 for public interest and government attorney members, $45 for law student members and $65 for non-members. Tickets include open bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres. Tax Section Annual Meeting Dec. 5The Annual Meeting and Election of Officers of the Tax Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the Warwick Radisson Hotel, 220 S. 17th St.
Prior to the Annual Meeting (from 3 to 5 p.m.), the Tax Section will present a CLE program on the scope of the taxing power through the Lens of the Supreme Court's most significant decisions of the 2011 term that qualifies for 2 hours of CLE credit. The dinner speaker will be former Gov. Edward G. Rendell who will discuss the elections. Additional information and details will be circulated shortly. Please note that cocktails will start promptly at 5 p.m.
Six Council members and a Vice Chair will be elected at the Annual Meeting. The Nominating Committee chaired by Dan Blickman has made the following nominations: Vice Chair, Jennifer A. O'Leary; Council Members, Jonathan R. Flora, Stacy Ip-Mo (filling a vacancy), Michael A. Jacobs, Pauline W. Markey, Laura Spain and Stewart M. Weintraub. Under the By-Laws of the Tax Section, members of the Tax Section may submit additional nominations for the above positions. Additional nominations must be signed by at least five members of the Section who are entitled to vote, and must be filed with the Secretary-Treasurer at least 14 days prior to the Annual Meeting. Workers' Comp Holiday Reception Dec. 5 at VIEThe Workers' Compensation Section Annual Holiday Reception will be Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. at VIE (by Cescaphe), 600 N. Broad St. Tickets are $50 for Section members and $80 for non-members. Admission includes Includes top shelf open bar, extensive hors d'oeuvres, pasta-seafood bar, sushi station and valet parking. YLD Holiday Party & Toy Drive Dec. 6The Young Lawyers Division Holiday Party and Toy Drive will be Thursday, Dec. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Tir Na Nog, 1600 Arch St. Help support People's Emergency Center and the Support Center for Child Advocates and bring an unwrapped toy or gift! We will also collect monetary donations at the Nov. 26 Executive Committee meeting so that the Executive Committee can make a combined larger donation.
