"Judgment in Berlin" Author April 7
Join the Brandeis Law Society and the Philadelphia Bar Association for a fascinating one-on-one interview with Judge Herbert Stern, author of "Judgment in Berlin" on Tuesday, April 7.
Judge Stern will recount his experiences as the U.S. judge for Berlin for the 1979 trial dealing with the hijacking by two East Germans of a plane to West Berlin, and the attempt by the U.S. Department of State to control the trial, eliminate judicial independence and deny the two defendants a jury trial. Hear how the politics of the time so significantly influenced proceedings that could have resulted in the diminution of the judiciary's authority but for the courage of one judge.
The program begins at 6 p.m. in the F.M. Kirby Auditorium at the National Constitution Center, 525 Arch St. There is no charge to attend, however registration in advance is required. Click here to register.
