23rd Annual Philadelphia Bar Association Charity Run set for May 19More than 1,000 members of the legal community and the general public will join forces to benefit at-risk children and individuals with diabetes at the Philadelphia Bar Association's 23rd Annual Charity Run on Sunday, May 19 at 8:30 a.m. on West River Drive in Philadelphia. Proceeds from Charity Run 2002 will be donated to the Support Center for Child Advocates, which provides free legal representation and assistance to child victims of abuse and neglect, and to the American Diabetes Association.
This year's Charity Run presents a new format consisting of a 5K run and a 5K walk. Deviating from the traditional 10K run and two-mile race, members of the Charity Run's committee agreed the new format would allow for a more family-friendly event. They have also added a reduced family rate registration fee for the walk.
Numerous awards will be presented to the top finishers, including silver bowls to the overall first-place male and female finishers. Dolfin running suits will be awarded to the first-place male and female finisher in each age group and medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age group. T-shirts will be provided to all participants who finish the run/walk.
The 5K Run entry fee for members of the public is $20 when postmarked by midnight on May 13; $25 between May 14 and 16; and $30 on race day. The entry fee for Philadelphia Bar Association members is $40 when postmarked by May 13; $50 between May 14 and 16; and $60 on race day. Registering for the race as a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association automatically enrolls the racer in a separate open Bar competition.
The entry fee for the 5K Walk is $15. Immediate family members can register for the walk at a reduced rate of $50.
In addition to the individual competition, team competition is also available. For more information on signing up as a team, contact Michael Berkowitz at (215) 567-2010. Deadline for team registration is May 11.
