Criminal Justice Section and Justinian Society to Present Beccaria AwardThe Philadelphia Bar Association's Criminal Justice Section and The Justinian Society will present the 10th Annual Cesare Beccaria Award to Jules Epstein, Esq., on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 4 p.m. Epstein is being recognized for his contribution to the cause of justice and the advancement of legal education. The awards reception, open to all members of the legal community, will be held at City Hall, Courtroom 653. A light fare will be served following the free program.
Cesare Beccaria, an 18th Century Italian scholar, was an early proponent of many of the tenets of modern criminal law. His visionary work is credited with aiding the subsequent European penal code reform and the eventual development of the American criminal justice system. This year marks the 209th anniversary of his death.
