Bar Association Seeking Staff Attorney for Policy and Planning
The Philadelphia Bar Association seeks a Staff Attorney for Policy and Planning.
Job Title: Staff Attorney for Policy and Planning
Supervisor: Executive Director
Major Purpose: This individual is responsible for providing professional substantive support to all those Committees and Sections of the Association that are not otherwise presently staffed. The individual will also serve as the individual responsible for coordinating the monthly Cabinet and Board of Governors meetings.
Section and Committee Liaison:
Serve as a professional resource to all section and committees not already so staffed. Help guide and coordinate work of multiple sections and committees moving resolutions through the Board of Governors. Assist in responding with appropriate resolutions to various pending legislative issues. Work towards making all sections and committees proactive not only in areas of legislation but also as regards all issues that impact various practice areas. Foster discussion and joint action between appropriate Sections and Committees on issues common to such Sections and Committees and/or relevant to the profession as a whole.
Work closely with the Director of Legal Services in learning what legislation is pending on the local, state and federal level and following up with the appropriate Sections and Committees as directed by the Director of Legal Services. Attend Legislative Liaison Committee meetings. Assist Director of Legal Services as needed in preparing any testimony required at public hearings by leaders of the Association.
Board of Governors/Cabinet:
Work directly with Executive Director in preparing all materials for Board of Governors meetings and any other projects as assigned by Executive Director as regards the Board of Governors. Assist incoming Chancellor and Chair of Board of Governors in preparation of yearly Board Retreat and accompanying materials.
Any other duties or assignments as made by the Executive Director.
Admission to and active status with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania with two to three years of active practice in some area of the law in either the private or non-profit sector. Effective and tactful communication skills with members and staff are required as are excellent writing ability. Must have working knowledge and familiarity with Word, Excel, Outlook e-mail system and be able to learn internal computer system. Must be flexible in a high pressure environment.
