Chancellors Send Letters Urging Support of Merit Selection Bills
For more than fifty years, the Philadelphia Bar Association has campaigned for merit selection of appellate court judges in Pennsylvania. The General Assembly is poised to vote on two bills – Senate Bill 44 and House Bill 1336 – that would bring the question of merit selection of appellate court judges to the voters of Pennsylvania.
Chancellor Gaetan J. Alfano, Chancellor-Elect Deborah R. Gross and Vice Chancellor Mary F. Platt have sent letters to members of the Philadelphia delegation urging them to support these bills. In addition, letters were sent to Senators Williams and Farnese thanking them for sponsoring Senate Bill 44 and to Representatives Acosta, DeLissio, O’Brien and Sims thanking them for sponsoring House Bill 1336. Read the general language of the letters in support of Senate Bill 44 and House Bill 1336 here.
