Chancellor Mary F. Platt on the Passing of Allan H. Gordon

Mary F. Platt, Chancellor of the 12,000-member Philadelphia Bar Association, issued the following statement today on the passing of Former Chancellor Allan H. Gordon:

“Allan was a kind and gentle soul. He was known for his generous spirit, wit, charm and grace, and was highly respected by all as an excellent attorney, arbitrator and mediator and an accomplished leader in our legal community. He will truly be missed.”

“Allan served as the 75th Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association in 2002, and was a former chair of the Association’s Board of Governors. He also was a former president of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association.”

“Among his many accomplishments in public service to the legal community, Allan helped found the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas’ Judge Pro Tempore program, which helped reduce the backlog of civil cases by allowing selected attorneys to sit as pro bono judges. He also was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent Program and a volunteer lawyer there.”

“Allan graduated from Central High School in 1958, served a brief stint in the U. S. Army, and then received his undergraduate degree from Temple University in 1963 and his law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 1966. As a name partner at Kolsby, Gordon, Robin & Shore, he was a strong advocate for plaintiffs in medical malpractice, products liability and other complex personal injury matters in addition to serving as a mediator and arbitrator at ADR Options for the past twelve years.”

“A memorial service will be held on Sunday June 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El, 1001 Remington Rd., Wynnewood, PA, and Shiva will be held at the home of Lauren and Lenard Cohen, 125 Old Gulph Rd., Wynnewood, PA, on June 24, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m.”
