Chancellor Applauds Launch of Philadelphia Eviction Prevention Project
Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Mary F. Platt issued the following statement regarding the recent announcement of the Philadelphia Eviction Prevention Project:
“I applaud Mayor Jim Kenney and the members of City Council for launching the Philadelphia Eviction Prevention Project. Thousands of tenants are evicted each year and many of them do not have counsel. This Project will reduce the number of evictions and reduce homelessness by providing more legal services and resources to tenants in danger of losing their homes.
“Services will include a tenant helpline (267-443-2500) and website (www.phillytenant.org), information and connections to legal services inside the courtroom, direct legal representation of tenants, outreach to at risk tenants and financial counseling.
“Congratulations to Mayor Kenney, members of City Council and all of the nonprofit organizations that will implement the project in partnership with Philadelphia Municipal Court, including: Clarifi, Community Legal Services, Legal Clinic for the Disabled, Philadelphia VIP, Regional Housing Legal Services, SeniorLAW Center and the Tenant Union Representative Network.”
