Community Outreach2010 Edward F. Chacker Essay ContestNamed for former Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Edward F. Chacker, the 2010 contest offers a $1,000 college scholarship to High School Seniors who attend public, parochial, charter or private schools in Philadelphia. Seniors are asked to write an essay of at least 1,000 words on the question: "If you were chosen to advise soon-to-be United States Citizens at their Naturalization Ceremony, what would you tell them their responsibilities are as a United States Citizen? Why are these responsibilities important?" The winner will receive his or her award at the Naturalization Ceremony at the Federal Courthouse on May 3, 2010. Submissions should include the student's name, address, telephone number and school on a cover sheet accompanying the essay. 2010 Poster ContestsFor the first time, the Law Week Poster Contest is now two contests, one open to 4th, 5th and 6th grade students and the other to 7th and 8th grade students. All students must be from Philadelphia public, private, charter and parochial schools. All applicable students are asked to: Draw a picture showing how the law helps people in their community. Posters should be produced on standard 22" x 28" poster board and students should include their name, address, telephone number and school on the back of the poster. Savings Bonds will be awarded for the top three posters in each grade group: First place, $250; second place, $100; and third place, $50.
