PHILADELPHIA BAR ASSOCIATION RESOLUTION TO ELIMINATE THE CHANCELLOR’S STIPEND

WHEREAS, on September 26, 1996, the Philadelphia Bar Association Board of Governors adopted a resolution approving the annual payment of a stipend in the amount of $15,000.00 to the Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association beginning January 1, 1997; and

WHEREAS, the stipend was instituted in recognition of the loss of time from practice and out of pocket expenses incurred by the Chancellor and with the intention that the stipend would promote a greater diversity among candidates for the office of Chancellor; and

WHEREAS, the experience of the past twenty-one years has shown that diverse members have chosen to lead and serve the Philadelphia Bar Association as Chancellor without regard to the existence of a stipend.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association approves the elimination of the payment of a stipend in the amount of $15,000.00 to the Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association effective as of January 1, 2018.
