Webinar: Adequately and Fairly Funding Pennsylvania Schools June 8

Gov. Thomas Wolf has proposed $500 million in new funding starting this July for public schools and $3.8 billion in local property tax reductions for schools next year. To pay for these programs, he has proposed a shale extraction tax and increases in the personal income and sales taxes. He has also proposed expanding the coverage of the sales tax to include the cost of services – including legal and accounting services.

The PBA Education Law Section and PBI will deliver a timely seminar that will focus on the issues most relevant to your practice:

  • The background on current school funding problems
  • Wolf administration proposals for funding schools
  • Revenue options for funding public schools
  • Issues concerning how the state should raise revenues to pay for these programs, including proposed changes in funding charter schools

The program will provide information about the components of a good funding formula and look at the work of the Basic Education Funding Commission and the state-wide Campaign for Fair Education Funding.

This 2 CLE credit webinar will be held on Monday, June 8, 12 to 2 p.m.; check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. For additional information, or to register, click here.
