Call for Volunteer Attorneys: YLD Expungement Clinic Nov. 12
Registration for Expunging & Sealing Criminal Records training now open. CLE program is FREE for expungement clinic volunteers.
Having a criminal record expunged or sealed can dramatically improve a person's life by allowing him or her to pursue permanent employment or housing opportunities that would otherwise not be available to them. Effective Nov. 12, 2016, Pennsylvania will allow individuals who have served their sentence and have remained free of arrest or prosecution for 10 years to petition the court to have their records of conviction for misdemeanors of the second and third degree be sealed from public view.
On Nov. 12, 2016, the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association, in partnership with Community Legal Services and key members of the criminal, legal, and judicial communities, will conduct a pro bono criminal record expungement and sealing clinic. The clinic will take place at six locations throughout Philadelphia from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Organizers will be seeking volunteer attorneys and law students to assist with processing petitions at the clinic and to handle follow-up hearings for contested petitions. Details on registering to volunteer to follow.
Registration for Expunging & Sealing Criminal Records training now open. CLE program is FREE for expungement clinic volunteers. Dates are Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday Nov. 2 at 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and , Friday, Nov. 4 at 12 p.m.

Email Scam Alert: Phishing Attempt
It has come to our attention that some members of several state bar associations including Florida, Georgia, Nevada and California received a fraudulent email indicating that a complaint has been made against their firm. This email is not coming from the bar association and is an attempt to phish members.
The email includes directions to click on a link, which purports to be a copy of the complaint. Bar members in the impacted states are being advised by their bar associations not to click on the link, as it appears to be an attempt to put "ransomware" on the affected computer.
The state bar associations impacted have sent warnings to their audiences, but this scam may continue to spread. The Philadelphia Bar Association encourages its members to remain vigilant regarding suspicious emails that could potentially be fraudulent, including those with links or attachments.
