The Court Collections Effort in Philadelphia: Fair Game or Foul Play?
This panel takes a look at the recent efforts to collect old debt alleged to be owed to the courts by criminal defendants and will address two questions: Does the current debt collection system function effectively and fairly? What improvements would panelists recommend? We will begin by screening a short Penn Law documentary on the process and then turn to our panel, which will be moderated by David Udell from the National Center for Access to Justice and will include Sharon Dietrich from Community Legal Services, Mike Lovell from the Defender Association of Philadelphia, and Mary Achilles, a victim services advocate.
The panel is put on by the Public Interest Section and co-sponsored by the Criminal Justice Section.
