Statement from Chancellor of the Bar on Death of G. Fred DiBona, Jr.Following is a statement from Chancellor Andrew A. Chirls of the Philadelphia Bar Association:
The entire Philadelphia legal community mourns the passing of Independence Blue Cross President and CEO, G. Fred DiBona, Jr. We extend our condolences to Mr. DiBona's family, associates, many friends and to the entire Blue Cross family--all 10,000 employees of Independence Blue Cross.
Fred DiBona took great pride in the title "Philadelphia lawyer" and we were honored to count him as one of our own. A native Philadelphian, he believed in this region and its people. He was more than the CEO of a large corporation--he was one of the region's top civic and community leaders.
I think he understood that health care was really all about people and he appreciated the important social mission of Blue Cross. He was always there when we needed him.
As someone who worked in health care, Fred DiBona certainly recognized the fragility of human life and the cruel randomness of serious illness. He left us far too soon. His accomplishments on behalf of the region stand as a testament to his energy, passion, and dedication. We will miss him.
