PHILADELPHIA BAR ASSOCIATION RESOLUTION HONORING ROBERTA D. LIEBENBERG ON RECEIVING THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION'S MARGARET BRENT WOMEN LAWYERS OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
WHEREAS, Roberta D. Liebenberg, a senior partner at Fine Kaplan and Black, R.P.C., has had a distinguished career in antitrust, class actions and white collar criminal defense; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, Roberta D. Liebenberg has been a recognized leader on issues of gender equality, diversity and the advancement of women in the legal profession; and
WHEREAS, Roberta D. Liebenberg has achieved many leadership roles in the Philadelphia Bar Association, having served as Chair of the Antitrust Committee and Co-Chair of the Women in the Profession Committee and the Gender Fairness Task Force; and
WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court appointed Roberta D. Liebenberg to the Interbranch Commission for Racial, Gender and Ethnic Fairness, where she has served as one of the Court's representatives since 2005; and
WHEREAS, from 2008 to 2011 and from 2013 to 2014, Roberta D. Liebenberg served as Chair of the American Bar Association's Commission on Women in the Profession, and from 2012 to 2013 served as the first Chair of the American Bar Association's Gender Equity Task Force; and
WHEREAS, in 2003, Roberta D. Liebenberg was named as the first recipient of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession's Lynette Norton Award, in recognition of her outstanding litigation skills and mentoring of women; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, the National Law Journal named Roberta D. Liebenberg as one of its "50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America"; and
WHEREAS, in 2008, Roberta D. Liebenberg received the Philadelphia Bar Association's Sandra Day O'Connor Award, given annually to an outstanding woman attorney in the Philadelphia area who has achieved prominence and the highest degree of professional excellence in her field over a sustained period and who has openly and visibly used her position and stature in the community to mentor, promote and advance other women lawyers; and
WHEREAS, in accepting the O'Connor Award, Roberta D. Liebenberg noted, "The glass ceiling may be cracking, but it still looms over us."; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her professional excellence and extraordinary efforts throughout her career on behalf of women lawyers to shatter the glass ceiling, the American Bar Association's Commission on Women in the Profession has honored Roberta D. Liebenberg with the 2016 Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association Board of Governors congratulates Roberta D. Liebenberg on receiving the 2016 Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award and further expresses its gratitude and appreciation for her outstanding work throughout her career to advance the standing of, and opportunities for, women in the legal profession.
